Personal profile

Dr. Amal Abuzeinab is a Senior Lecturer and Institute Head of Research Students (IHRS) - Institute of Architecture.

Amal is working on flourishing as borrowed from Positive Psychology on 3 main areas: Flourishing business models in architecture, built environment, and planning; PhD supervision; and flourishing in academia. Amal is also experimenting on spaces for multiple methods and perspectives as a way of knowing and understanding through dialogue. 

Dr Abuzeinab is currently supervising 3 PhD students and welcomes PhD applications in sustainable business models, sustainable built environment, sustainability in architectural education, retrofitting, sustainable development in Higher Education institutes, and topics that align with Social Sciences.

As an early career researcher between 2016 -2023, Amal secured more than 100k fund from different sources. 

 Amal was the co-faculty head of research students for over 2 years at the Faculty of Arts, Design, and Humanities overseeing over 500 PhD students and their supervisors. Amal was the founder of Architecture Doctoral Training Programme (DTP).

 Funded by EPSRC, Amal has awarded her PhD in 2015 from University of Salford. Her thesis title was Implementing Green Business Models in the UK Construction Industry: Opportunities and Challenges. Amal has MSc in Architecture from the Robert Gordon University  and BSc Hons in Architecture from University of Khartoum, Sudan.
